Sober Holiday Tip Number 20 - Happy Sober New Year!

New Year's Eve is a time of fun and excitement as people bid farewell to the old year and welcome in the new. While many choose to celebrate with alcohol, there are plenty of ways to have a great time without it.

Here are a few other alcohol-free ideas for your New Year's Eve celebrations:

First Night celebrations - First Night was first held in Boston in 1975, and it was designed as a family-friendly alternative to the rowdy parties that were common on New Year's Eve. My husband and I will be having a fun and alcohol-free time at Morristown, New Jersey's First Night Celebration this evening! Morristown has held the event this 1992 and is the largest First Night in the Garden State.

Game nights at home - Consider hosting a game night with friends and family. Games like charades, Pictionary, and board games can be great fun and provide plenty of laughs. You could even have a tournament with prizes for the winners.

Movie marathons - Another idea is to have a movie marathon. Choose a theme, like comedies or classic films, and settle in for the night with plenty of popcorn and snacks.

Dance parties - For those who love to dance, consider attending an alcohol-free dance party. Many cities host events like this, and they can be a great way to let loose and have fun without the need for alcohol.

Finally, if you're looking for a more reflective way to usher in the new year, consider attending a meditation or yoga class. One of my Christmas gifts is a one-hour massage that I plan to use asap! Yoga, meditation, massages are all great ways to pamper yourself and can help you set intentions for the new year and connect with your inner self.

No matter how you choose to spend your New Year's Eve, remember that the most important thing is to have fun and be safe.
