National Recovery Month - New Jersey Events and More!

Updated: Sep 24

Though we're half-way through National Recovery Month - I see the glass as half-full (with water! lol) and not half-empty. There are still plenty of activities and events in our Garden State to celebrate and recognize National Recovery Month as an important part of bringing awareness and support to a national crisis of addiction.

National Recovery Month provides information, a sense of community and hope.

Thanks to a thorough list on the Princeton Detox and Recovery Center website, I found what's happening in New Jersey, starting with today, September 14th:

Participants can set up a fundraising page here.

Recovery Educational Workshops in Toms River

Sundays Sept. 19 – Oct. 10 | 5pm | St. Luke Roman Catholic Church of Toms River | Free to attend

Throughout September there will be five weekly educational workshops to spread awareness and share recovery resources within the Toms River community in New Jersey. Each session will be held at St. Luke Roman Catholic Church at 5pm. Doors will open at 4pm for resource gathering from participating organizations, which will provide recovery resources. Fr. Edward Reading, Ph.D., LCADC, CCS, from the Matt Talbot institute in Toms River and part of the Addiction Studies Faculty at Ocean County College, will be the primary presenters of these sessions, along with other professionals from the area.

Sept. 19: “Dynamics of the Chemically Dependent Family.” This session will describe the dynamics and roles within families where substance abuse and addiction are part of the daily lives of those involved.

Sept. 23: “The Matt and Max Memorial Mass” will honor those who have died from addiction during the past two years. The Venerable Matt Talbot (Patron of Alcoholics) and Saint Maximilian Kolbe (Patron of the Drug Addicted) will be memorialized during the liturgy. All are invited to attend and bring photos of their deceased loved ones, which will be displayed during the mass at 6:30pm.

Sept. 26: “Stages and Patterns of Adolescent Substance Abuse.” This session will be primarily for parents and young adults.

Oct. 3: “Substance Abuse among Military Veterans” will begin with a DVD presentation followed by a discussion. Members of the American Legion and disabled American Veterans are invited to attend as well.

Oct. 10: “How to Become an Addiction Professional.” This session will discuss how to become a specialized provider, including information about courses available at Ocean County College to become a Certified and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor. Additional topics covered will include Medicine, Nursing, and other mental health professions

Recovery Month Beach Bash After Party

Saturday Oct. 2 from 11am to 3pm | 200 S. Albany Ave., Atlantic City, New Jersey

The All Roads Recovery Community Center is a nonprofit organization that provides a safe space for anyone in recovery to network, gain recovery resources, get recovery coaching and attend recovery meetings. All Roads will host a beach bash with food and entertainment on Oct. 2.

And here's a God wink! I looked up the All Roads Beach Bash and found a whole bunch of recovery events listed on Eventbrite! Here's the link and a screenshot of some of what is listed:

So check all these out and have fun! Being sober doesn't mean life stops. Life starts with sobriety!
